ABOUT US

The Irish Church Music Association was founded in November 1969 to support the work of musicians working in the field of liturgical music in Ireland. Through training, publication and dissemination of information, the ICMA strives to improve standards and encourage musicians in their service of God and the community. The ICMA is supported by the Irish Bishops' Conference and is based in the National Centre for Liturgy, St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, Co. Kildare.

Each July, ICMA hosts the Church Music Summer School in Maynooth, where musicians from around the country and beyond get the opportunity to sing and pray together, learning the best music of past and present.

For many years the first week of July has been marked by the annual summer school.  Parish musicians, choir members and directors, secondary school and primary school teachers, teenagers and young adults over the past forty-five years have participated in the summer school with enthusiasm and spirit.  They have sung and made music as they explored new compositions by our many Irish and international composers and sang from our traditional repertoire, renewed and refreshed for the following autumn, winter and spring.

The ICMA held its first Summer School at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, 13-17 July 1972.
